By Car:
- APPROACHING HEREFORD FROM THE NORTH, THE MIDLANDS OR MID WALES: from the A4103 Worcester, A432 Ledbury, A438 Brecon, A49 Leominster. Follow the signs into the centre of Hereford and then the signs for Abergavenny A465. In the City Centre you will travel over the Wye Bridge and come to a roundabout. Take the ABERGAVENNY road, A465, exit. Follow this road and you will come to the “Tesco roundabout”. Drive straight over the roundabout and carry straight on up the hill. Take the first turning on the right sign posted Ruckhall Lane. After 0.2 miles turn left to enter the Belmont Abbey grounds. On entering you will see the Hedley Lodge Guesthouse on your right.
- APPROACHING HEREFORD FROM LONDON, THE SOUTH-EAST, OR MIDLANDS ( via M50). From Ross-on-Wye take the A49 to Hereford. After 9 miles turn left on to a road sign posted Callow. Follow the road for 0.6 miles until you reach a T-junction, and turn left, driving a further 0.4 miles until reaching another T-junction . Turn right toward the A465 and follow the road for 2.2 miles. At the junction turn left on to the A465, taking then the first turning on your right on to Ruckhall Lane. After 0.2 miles turn left in to the Belmont Abbey grounds. On entering you will see the Hedley Lodge Guesthouse on your right. (Should you miss the Callow turn go to the centre of Hereford and take the A465 for Abergavenny as described above).
Driving tip from the South East and London: The quickest route: Take the M4 to Junction 15, A419/417. After the Gloucester by-pass take the B4213 via Newent to M50 junction 3. Take the road to Ross on-Wye, and from there the A49.
- APPROACHING HEREFORD FROM SOUTH WALES via Abergavenny, A465. Follow signs for Hereford along the A465. You will travel approximately 18 miles along this road before reaching Hedley Lodge. As you drive through Pontrilas you will notice the Pontrilas Saw Mills on your left hand side. Continue to follow the A465 where you will pass a Shell petrol station. As you enter the 40 mile an hour speed limit you will drive through a wooded area. Take the next turning on the left to Ruckhall Lane. After 0.2 miles take the first left to enter the Belmont Abbey grounds. On entering you will see the Hedley Lodge Guesthouse on your right.
By Train:
Services are frequent from South Wales, Birmingham, Crewe, the Midlands and the North. There are several direct trains from London Paddington to Hereford via Oxford and Worcester, as well as the regular (and sometimes faster service) from London Paddington changing at Newport. A taxi rank is located at the entrance to the train station.
By Bus:
Services from Hereford to Madley, Abergavenny/Newport or Hay/Brecon stop at Belmont Abbey. (Be sure to ask for Belmont Abbey). Buses leave from the Bus Station, 500m from the Train Station. Long distance buses run from London Victoria and elsewhere to Hereford.
